Cat Letter Privacy Policy
1. Scope and contact
This policy explains how the current public version and website identified above handle information.
Privacy contact: [email protected]
2. Information we handle, how, and why
- Content in the app: The days you create, including titles, dates, repeat settings, selected keepsakes, letters, Time Machine history, notes, and app preferences, are stored in the app's local data area on your iPhone. This provides the core day, letter, lookback, and settings features. If you enable notifications, the current version locally uses a day title or keepsake name and a local day identifier to generate a reminder, display it, and open the corresponding page.
- Remote configuration and website technical information: The current version can request remote configuration and may retrieve a small amount of app copy or feature settings from Cat Letter's configuration service. When you visit the website or the app requests configuration, hosting and network services automatically process technical information needed to deliver content and protect the service, including IP address, User-Agent, request time, requested path, and routing information. Days, letters, and notes are not placed in these requests.
- Contact email: When you choose to email us, we receive your email address, message, and files you attach. We use them to respond, investigate problems, maintain the service, or meet necessary legal obligations.
- Current public-version analytics: Cat Letter 1.5 (build 72) does not currently send app-open, day-creation, letter-view, keepsake-selection, sharing, or other usage events to Cat Letter's product analytics database.
3. Sharing, export, and recipients
- Sharing or export you choose: A memory card is generated and shown on your device first. “Save a copy” packages local day data into a file on your device. The file may include titles, types, dates, keepsakes, reminders, repeat settings, notes, and other local records. Confirmed content is provided to a recipient or third-party app only after you select it in the iOS share sheet; that recipient handles the content under its own privacy rules.
- Cloudflare: Provides the official website, remote configuration, network delivery, and security services, and may process the network technical information described in Section 2.
- Apple: Provides the App Store, local iOS notifications, the system share sheet, and iOS or iCloud backups you choose to enable through device settings. Cat Letter does not currently provide its own cross-device cloud sync. Apple-managed backups may store and restore app data; we cannot read or directly delete copies held there.
We use these services only for the purposes described above and require service providers acting for us to protect user data consistently with this policy and applicable requirements, at the same or an equivalent level of protection.
4. Retention, deletion, and rights
- Content in the app stays on the device until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app. Deleting a day removes it from Home and the relevant management views, but letters already delivered to the Time Machine may remain as historical records. The current version has no separate control that deletes all Time Machine history at once.
- Uninstalling the app removes data from the app's local data area on that device. Copies in an Apple-managed device or iCloud backup may remain according to your backup settings.
- A locally cached remote configuration is replaced or removed when configuration is updated, app data is cleared, or the app is uninstalled. Technical request data for the website and configuration service is handled by the relevant provider for the period or under the criteria needed to provide the service and meet applicable requirements.
- Information you send through the contact mailbox is kept for as long as reasonably needed to handle the issue, maintain necessary records, or meet legal obligations.
- You can view, edit, or delete locally manageable days in the app; change notification and backup settings in the app or iOS; and decide whether and with whom to share or export content each time.
- You can contact [email protected] to request access to, correction of, or deletion of information we actually hold, such as contact correspondence, subject to records the law permits us to retain. Because the main content is held on your device or in Apple-managed backups, we generally cannot access, restore, or delete those copies for you.
If a later version changes how information is handled, we will update this policy and explain the new purpose, method, and choices before the relevant feature is enabled.
